The discovery of gold in California was just ten years in the past when the cemetery was founded in 1859. The fledgling city of Napa was nestled on the west side of the Napa River, and Don Cayetano Juarez's Rancho Tulocay stretched along the eastern river bank. Tulocay Cemetery is celebrating 150 years of serving the community, and looking forward to the 21st Century.
Peter Manasse became cemetery manager in 1993 after serving on the board for 22 years. At that time he said, "we want to make this one of the nicest cemeteries in Northern California." Nine years later, extensive renovation and replanting have turned the cemetery into a garden spot for visitors who are encouraged to stop by.
